The Christmas carolling in Queen Mary Hospital was very smooth from 2-5pm on Dec 16, 2012. I received an assignment from the hospital chaplain the first time. Thank God that He gave me strength and confidence to lead a group of young people to sing and pray for patients. They are all university undergraduates without experience in carolling. Some of them have sacrificed their studying time for the exams on the next day or days before the Christmas holidays. Thank God. They did very well and gathered good follow-up information for chaplaincy. During the carolling period, God led them what to do and say, and led me to encourage them and to keep them showing joyful smiley faces when visiting wards after wards.
God also led me walk with Him. I reached a patient who had pancreatic tumour. Two family members were besides her bed. But God encouraged me not to be shy or afraid of interfering them. So I walked towards her and talked to her with blessing. She told me that she believed in Buddhism. God gave me strength to explain to her that being a Christian can pray for anyone in any religions and then gave me boldness to ask her whether I can pray for her. After I asked, her two family members suddenly responded to me they are also Christians (one is Catholic and the other is Protestant). Praise Lord! We got three people to pray at the same time. After we prayed, I noted that the Holy Spirit has touched her soul as I recognised from her tears. With the encouragement from her grandson, she also accepted to let the chaplaincy to follow up and talk to her more about God.
On the next bed was an older woman. When I talked to her, she responded to me with simple expressions that she could not speak well, see well and hear what I said. The previous patient saw us and told me that this older woman aged over hundred already. Her two family members have left perhaps for giving us some privacy. Thank God for arranging this visit order for me. It would have never happened so if I visited in a reverse order. With the information, I realised that I cannot simply use my mouth anymore. God led me to use my warm hands to hold her cold hands to communicate heart to heart with my body language. I do not know what her disease is or how old would be her children or grandchildren who are taking care of her. I just prayed with my sincerity and soul. After the prayer, she responded by her hands showing the same expression of heart to heart and then the prayer hands. Thank Holy Spirit helping us to communicate and let her knows that God loves her and has been in her heart even she can no longer hear, speak and see clearly.
Before the Christmas carolling started, I distributed the Jesus Film DVD in Christmas cards to patients outside the wards. I met one who was reading a newspaper in the restaurant. She was puzzled and did not respond with a word or eye contact to me when I blessed her in the name of Jesus Christ. I felt slightly sorry, as I was not sure if I had done it well or because I had interrupted or even she is not the one. The Holy Spirit comforted me immediately that God has His own plan and I should not doubt. Next day when I visited the same restaurant during lunch hour, I saw her again sitting exactly on the same seat and doing exactly the same thing - reading a newspaper. I felt a strong voice telling me to sit down and chat with her, and so I did. I asked her and introduced to her we met before. We started the conversation by her interests in Christian carolling inside her ward yesterday and told me that she did not feel interrupted but felt surprised why she was the only one chosen by me in the restaurant. She was happy but did not know how to respond. She does not have any faith yet but seems to have many good Christian friends. She has been over aged for pregnancy and had one very unhappy failure not long ago. Now she is worried about the current pregnancy due in two weeks time as she already has high blood pressure and lymphatic disorder, which causes a high risk. Thank Lord to let us meet and share our thoughts as well as pray together for her baby and her health.
(I do not know why I write in English this time but I believe that God has His own plan.)
